Three times in this week’s Torah portion, God calls His people to holiness because He Himself is holy. He is separate and different in His greatness and in His being from everyone and everything else that ever was, is, or will be. He is perfect and there is no sin in Him, and only He is worthy to receive praise and glory. This same holy and awesome God, high and lifted up, “made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant…humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:7-8). What great and wonderful grace! The holy God who sits in the heavenlies, came to the world to save and sanctify sinners, and live in our hearts. Let’s encourage our students to get to know this holy God that so loves them, and let’s pray that they would be saved, and that they would have in their hearts the longing to live holy lives (1 Peter 1:51).
