This week’s Torah portion speaks about leprosy, which reminds us very much of sin. Leprosy, like sin, begins and spreads very slowly, doesn’t hurt in its first stages, desensitizes and shuts down the senses, causes decay and distortion of the sick person’s body, and eventually it’s even difficult to identify the leper who has lost all human resemblance. Indeed sin influences us spiritually in exactly the same way. Sin is a leprosy that influences our hearts and every area of our lives, it’s harmful to us and to those around us, separates us from God, and takes us out of the camp. But thank God for Yeshua, our High Priest, who not only looked upon the lepers, but also drew near, touched, healed and purified them! Let’s teach our children about the “disease” of sin that all of us are infected with, and about our need of a Savior that will heal and purify our hearts.
